چکیده

The Raman response function and Raman nonlinear index of phosphosilicate fibers are calculated for several P2O5 concentrations. The nonlinear index of phosphosilicate fiber is estimated by using the Boling formula, and it is used to calculate the Raman fraction of the nonlinear index. On the other hand, the Raman response function of the phosphosilicate fibers is fitted to a superposition of six phase-shifted under-damped functions in order to use it in the numerical simulation of ultra-short pulse propagation. We show through numerical simulations that phosphosilicate fibers are a suitable medium to observe a scaling up of the Raman self-frequency shift when compared to silica fibers.

Investigation of Scalar Modulation Instability in the Presence of Raman Scattering in Photonic Crystal Fibers

In this paper, by including Raman scattering in the coupled-mode equations, the scalar modulation instability in photonic crystal fibers is investigated. The evolution of the pump, Stokes and anti-Stokes waves along the fiber as well as the conversion efficiency for two cases, with and without Raman effect, are studied. The effect of anti-Stokes seed and the pump depletion on the evolution of S...

Raman response function for silica fibers.

The commonly used Lorentzian form of the Raman response function for studying propagation of ultrashort pulses in silica fibers does not properly account for the shoulder in the Raman gain spectrum originating from the Boson peak. We propose a more accurate form of this response function and show that its predictions for the Raman-induced frequency shift should be in better agreement with exper...

Raman Spectra of a PMMA Microstructured Optical Fibre and Direct Measurement of Its Gain Coefficient

A polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microstructured polymer optical fiber (mPOF) is fabricated and characterized. Using the cut-back technique the fiber loss is measured which is higher than the step-index silica fibers. Through a novel experimental scheme, the backward Stokes spectrum of the fabricated mPOF is recorded over a range exceeding 3000 cm‑1 during the cut-back method and compared ...

Single Wall Carbon Nanotube Fibers Extruded from Super-Acid Suspensions: Preferred Orientation, Electrical and Thermal Transport

Fibers of single wall carbon nanotubes extruded from super-acid suspensions exhibit preferred orientation along their axes. We characterize the alignment by x-ray fiber diagrams and polarized Raman scattering, using a model which allows for a completely unaligned fraction. This fraction ranges from 0.17 to 0.0560.02 for three fibers extruded under different conditions, with corresponding Gaussi...

Detection and Characterization of Human Teeth Caries Using 2D Correlation Raman Spectroscopy

Background: Carious lesions are formed by a complex process of chemical interaction between dental enamel and its environment. They can cause cavities and pain, and are expensive to fix. It is hard to characterize in vivo as a result of environment factors and remineralization by ions in the oral cavity. Objectives: The development of a technique that gives early diagnosis which is non-invasi...
